"My experiences in Melville shaped the person I became. Because of my involvement in minor sports, I had many role models growing up in Melville. My attitudes about the thrill of winning and the need to display grace in defeat were forged on these relationships and allowed me to succeed later in life. I am proud of my Melville roots."
I am thrilled that today's kids and their families in Melville will have the opportunity to learn about life, develop their personalities, dream about the future, and begin their life's memories in the new Communiplex.

With a price tag of $24.5 million, Melville's Communiplex Project is big. The scale may be unprecedented, but it is not the first time the people of Melville and area have banded together for an arena. In 1954, for example, when the Melville stadium was destroyed by fire, before the ashes had even cooled plans were underway for a new facility. Twenty-nine communities and municipalities, with a population of more than 17,000 people, are behind this project.
The current stadium in Melville is 65 years old, and it has outlived its practical lifespan. Updates to the current building are not a viable alternative. A new facility is the only sensible option, and it is an option already underway. Now is the time to get behind this community project that will enrich the region for a generation.
Since Melville's first days, the arena has been a community centre, and it continues to be so today. The Communiplex will be far more than an ice surface; it will house a 500-seat convention centre, a walking track, a fitness facility and a cardiac care centre, as well as the 1,500-seat arena. This facility will be a health and wellness, skating, community and cultural centre for Melville and the surrounding communities.
The benefits the Communiplex will bring to Melville are many, including:
